Springtime in Japan is full of joy, wonder, vibrant colours and scents, and that isn’t only for the outdoors🌸 When you visit Kyoto’s Kawabata Doki, you’ll be delightfully overwhelmed with all of the above and a whole lot more!🍡🍬🍰 Because if you didn’t know Kawabata Doki is said to be the oldest Wagashi dessert store in Kyoto and in my opinion, one of the best!🥰
Yesterday, I was so very fortunate to receive one of Kawabata Doki’s lovely desserts called the “Early Plum Blossoms” and it’s only available in this season, get yours now!🍡
It is so delicious, it’s made of Japanese sweet red bean paste and lightly showered with special white mochi powder. At first glance, you may think that it’s a hard sweet, but it is actually softer than an angel’s feather. And I must say that the balance in sweetness and texture is just phenomenal🥰
Kawabata Doki is located in a very traditional and enchanting area of Kyoto, right by Kamo river. Many of the buildings and stores in this area are very very old and that’s fitting for Kawabata Doki because as mentioned, it is said to be one of the oldest Wagashi dessert stores in Japan.
In fact, Kawabata Doki used to be the royal purveyor that provided the finest selection of mochi to the emperor in the 16th century.
And if that’s not impressive enough, it is said that Kyoto’s famous festival, the Gion-Matsuri, has a signature confectionery, the Chimaki, that was originally designed by Kawabata Doki.
I can’t wait to try their other seasonal menu! Their desserts are so unforgettably delicious and a true testimony to their history. It’s very clear why they’re lasted this long and continue to thrive deliciously😍🍡🍡🍡
